Starstruck Rhapsodies |
This coming year, I hope you create a story you love. I hope you make something beautiful and take great risks. I hope you dare yourself to do brave things. I hope you will have a conviction and see it through. I hope you fall in love - with art or a person or God. I hope you discover the miracle of faith. I hope life breaks you and from the disaster, I hope you come out brand new and beautiful. I hope you have the courage to take the weak things and amplify them until your life overflows with only the good stuff. I hope you see the world and meet interesting people but above all, I hope you have an absolutely passionate love affair with life. |
“I’m not gonna lie to you. It isn’t gonna be easy. And there will be some days when life just sucks. But you’re gonna get through this because I’m gonna help you. And so will everyone else who loves you and accepts you for who you are. And if they can’t accept that, then, screw ‘em.”
“This week, um, Mr Schue had us think about something that we can look forward to in the future. (…) Close your eyes, and imagine what life could be like, in 10 years.”
”(….) You’re sitting in a fantastic office, you’re some kind of successful professional. (…) You’re a big sports agent, living in the city of your dreams, because you left Lima, and never looked back. Your handsome partner comes to visit you in your office, and brings along your son. You’re taking the rest of the day off work cause you’re taking your son to his first football game. You lean over to your partner, and you say…”
“I’m so happy right now.”
This whole scene goes down as one of the most powerful scenes in Glee for me. It came at a time when I was exhausted from work, and questioning so much of myself and the direction I’ve decided to undertake. When Kurt spoke these words, the tears just fell. In the moments when I’ve doubted myself, or in the moments when the people around me tell me that my dreams are “not realistic” or that I don’t have what it takes to achieve them, that was what I’ve always done.
And that’s what I’ll continue to do. Having a vision in your head over what your future is going to be like, is the first step to reaching whatever dreams you have. Whether your dreams are in this country or not, or whether they have anything to do with your current state and circumstances, dare to dream it.
Every day you wake up, take a few minutes for yourself to collect your thoughts and remember your purpose. Take a few minutes in bed, and tell yourself that everyday you get get up, get dressed and get out of your house for school/work, is a day closer to achieving the things you want out of life. Take a few minutes to envision those dreams in your head, and when you are filled with that drive, capture that feeling, and hold on to it. Every day you face, no matter how good or bad it may be, will be nothing compared to the fierce flame that you’ve ignited in your heart from the beginning.
That flame will carry you through.
Sidenote: I feel like I’ve been coming up with these heavier posts lately, but I miss writing, and till now, it’s easily one of the best ways for me to put things into perspective and get the thoughts I have in my mind out.
